Spectre – “Writings on the Wall” by Sam Smith

We end the list with the theme song of the upcoming Bond film, Spectre. ‘Writings on the Wall’ is sung by Sam Smith and it’s still too early to tell just how the song fits with the movie until we’ve heard it with the opening sequence. Again, the theme of Spectre has one foot set firmly in the past, drawing inspiration from older Bond movies, while the other digs deeper into Bond’s own, dark past, more than ever before. Smith’s vocals have a sad, whiny effect, almost to the effect of tragic, which doesn’t quite keep with any Bond song ever heard before, so we’ll just have to wait and see how it feels within the movie. Spectre releases in theaters this Friday.
