And the Nominees for the 57th Grammy Awards are..
This year’s Grammy nominations are finally out! With yet another peculiar concept in mind, the Recording Academy has announced the nominees in a strange fragmented way. Almost all of the nominees rolled out earlier this day and has some of the best music artists competing with each other for various categories including the iconic – Best New Artist of the Year, Record of the Year and Best Solo Performances.
The Recording Academy started announcing the nominees for the 57th Grammy Awards on CBS last evening at 7:30 pm (IST). Then between 8 pm and 12:30am IST, more categories were unveiled online on the official website and via Twitter. All nominations amounted to 82 categories, leaving the biggest and the final category ‘Best Album of the Year’ a surprise! This 83rd category was announced this morning on ‘A Very GRAMMY Christmas,’ which aired at 7:30 am IST on CBS.
Sam Smith, Coldplay and Ed Sheeran are up for battle against Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande and Katy Perry for the title of Best Pop Album. UK acts versus USA acts; that never gets old. Sam Smith, with his angelic single ‘Stay With Me’, also made it to various other categories including the Record of the Year, alongside Taylor Swift’s hit single ‘Shake It Off’ and Sia’s eccentric ‘Chandelier’. ‘Chandelier’ also got a place in the nominees for the Best Music Video.
U2’s ‘Songs of Innocence’ has landed in the nominations for the Best Rock Album. Other nominees include Beck, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Ryan Adams and the Black Keys. Nominees for Best Country Album are Dierks Bentley, Brandy Clark, Eric Church, Lee Ann Womack and Miranda Lambert. Lambert’s ‘Platinum’ won Album of the Year at the Country Music Association Awards. Frozen has managed to secure a nomination in the much-awaited category, Best Soundtrack, and is up against the soundtracks of Wolf of the Wall Street, American Hustle, Get On Up and Guardians of the Galaxy.
The Album of the Year nominees were announced in the end and the contenders up for a riveting battle this year, include: Beck (Morning Phase), Beyoncé (Beyoncé), Ed Sheeran (X), Sam Smith (In The Lonely Hour) and Pharrell Williams (Girl).
With Twitter being flooded with the announcements of the nominees and artist’s tweets in response, the Grammy 2015 nominees are warming everyone up for the final show. The award ceremony will be held on 8th February, 2015.
