‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ Shatters U.S Box Office Records

The Force is strong with the new Star Wars movie. It was bound to happen. The world has been eagerly awaiting for the biggest movie this year. And so were the predictions that Star Wars: The Force Awakens will shatter or destroy (or whatever you want to call it) the box office records. Well, the first record is in and the movie has shattered premier night records in the U.S with $57 million, streaking past the previous record of $43.5 million set in 2011 by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.

Let it also be known that this figure is for North America alone and we’re yet to know about the other half. Now, this is just for Thursday night and the movie is just getting started. Predictions also say that The Force Awakens is likely to pass the domestic weekend record of $208.8 million, set earlier this year by Jurassic World.

The seventh instalment to the Star Wars franchise also broke preview night IMAX record by raking in $5.7 million from 391 IMAX screens, passing the previous record of $3 million. The Force Awakens started opening worldwide from Wednesday and has so far collected $170 million globally as of Friday morning.

Like we said, this is just the start. The movie is on course to break a whole lot of records and some early spoiler-free reviews (we couldn’t help but look) have nothing but praises for the movie. Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits Indian theatres next Friday. Are you ready for the awakening?
