4 Most Underrated Beach Destinations on the West Coast of India

Who wouldn’t want a vacation right about now? And not the kind that requires recovery time after. We’re thinking – sandy feet, a good book and a chilled glass of white wine.

The beaches of Goa have turned into commercial tourist destination spots with venues for hosting popular music and dance festivals. Even the once-underground spots have been commercialized to boost tourism. So what’s left?

Here are the 4 underrated beach destinations on the west coast of India, waiting to be explored:

1. Kashid Beach, Maharashtra

Kashid is a small village that lies along the the shores of the Arabian Sea, and is located in Konkan region within the state of Maharashtra. It’s beautifully clad in blue waters, white sand, green mountains and paddy fields that render that beach an exceptional  place to be visited. It is completely deserted on weekdays and stretches to about 3 km.

2. Diveagar Beach, Maharashtra

Lying 140 km south of Mumbai, this magical beach is located in Raigad district of Maharashtra and can be reached by taking the Mumbai-Goa highway. The northern end of the 4 km stretch is home to the fishing community, who are the inhabitants of the place, while the southern end has a sanctuary for migratory seabirds. It’s an undeveloped beach, untouched by commercial parasites.

3. Half Moon Beach, Karnataka

Gokarna in Karnataka secures a handful of  unspoiled and rustic beaches that are not so populated, and are not as well-known. Half Moon Beach is only one of them. It can be reached by walking over the headland. One can camp overnight in the idyllic setting to relax. Facilities are limited except for one or two restaurants.

4. Agatti Beach, Lakshadweep

A tranquil spot full of glittering emeralds and aqua lagoons, the island is wrapped up in white sand. About 459 km from Kochi, the island stretches to about 6 km and you sure can bicycle your way through the island. Be careful not to run into the drying octopus tentacles though; they are a pretty common sight out there.
